Hey cool, I’ve got an extra Cortex Command key I forgot about. It got sent to me when I requested my old key emailed to me alongside my current one.

I may have to do some sort of silly contest for this.

I know nothing.  So this Axe Cop mod, people will have to buy this game to play it?  I don’t turn down free stuff, it’s against my religion.

Alright well, here’s how it works.

Cortex Command is an *unfinished* game at this time, but it’s very playable and has a lot of mods and stuff. If you were to buy the game now, your registration code will continue to work up to and after the point that the game is complete (So you buy it now while the game is in beta [At a reduced price, no less.], and you get the finished version free and get to mess around with it all the way through the process of it being made!). If you don’t want to buy the game, you can play the timed demo, which can load mods just fine.

So either way, you can play the Axe Cop mod, but for unlimited time in doing so, (Demo games last 6-10 minutes, and then you have to start the round over.) you have to buy the game.

And hey, buying the game supports an indie developer, and buying it now is cheaper then buying it when the game is complete. What a steal!

I always love just having a single guy and shooting the rockets of enemy ships and making them flip out and crash into their recently landed units.

Hey, folks.  I figure I’ve been lurking in the background for long enough on this one (I’m the one making the mod, in case you haven’t figured that out).
Anyway, here’s a few teasers for Wexter.  Just a word of warning, the images are a bit large, and probably not safe for work given the amount of gore in Cortex Command.

Well, there’s basically 3 levels of work going on.
First, I do the sprites.  This is probably my weakest department, so a lot of the sprites will be replaced anyway.
Next, I code the characters and items themselves.  This is using ini (configuration) files that define everything about an object - its mass, how sharp it is, whether it stays in place, et cetera.  This part sounds simple, but it does take a lot of work, especially in Wexter’s case - making characters walk properly can be difficult, and making big characters like Wexter move without stumbling is even harder.  This is where a lot of people get stuck on modding Cortex Command, and it does take a lot of practice.
Lastly, I have a layer of Lua scripts applied to almost all the characters.  This allows for the non-standard things that wouldn’t normally happen in Cortex Command.  A couple examples are Wexter’s fire-breathing and super duper fast bite, or Axe Cop’s ability to chop off heads.  This is the part that adds the more exciting things into the mod.  Otherwise, you would just have something that looks like Wexter or Axe Cop but doesn’t behave like you would expect them to.  On the other hand, Lua is fairly complicated to learn at first, and is not something I would suggest to try and include in your first mod for Cortex Command unless you have a background in programming.

If Avocado Soldier picks up a Unicorn Horn broken off of Uni-Baby, he turns into Uni-Avocado Soldier.  Aside from receiving Uni-Baby’s ability to make things explode by hitting them with his horn, I figured he also need some sort of magical power, and so the magical blast you see there was born.

All right, here’s the current version.  Download the file, and extract it into your Cortex Command folder.
To get Dinosaur Soldier, buy Flute Cop and give him a Vial of Dinosaur Blood.  Give Dinosaur Soldier an Avocado (found in the Tools menu), and he turns into Avocado Soldier.  Buy a Uni-Baby and blow of its horn, then pick it up with Avocado Soldier and he turns into Uni-Avocado Soldier.
Axe Cop turns into Axe Cop With Lemon if you give him a Lemon from the Tools menu.
Hold the jetpack button to fly as Wexter.  Hold crouch to make him breathe fire, and tap crouch to make him use his super duper fast bite.  Axe Cop can mount him if you bring him nearby, and you can let him off by opening the pie menu.
